To think about…

Strange Yeast infection symptoms occur.They vary from person to person. And with one person the symptoms can change from day to day. These symptoms may vary based on the persons general health or genetic makeup. This is the one of the reasons that there are so many different symptoms.

75% of the population, it has been estimated, suffer from some sort of yeast infection at some time in their life.

To treat yeast infection you have to treat what caused the infection in the first place. The root cause. Everyone knows what a flare up of vaginal yeast infection or diaper rash is. You get some medicine and it clears up, right?

But did you REALLY cure the infection or did you just treat the symptoms?

How do I know if I have a yeast infection?

There are many factors contributing to the propagation of yeast infection that women should know and some of them are:

* Imbalance in your system due to antibiotics and stress

* Wearing tight undergarments or underwear materials that promotes sweating

* Pregnancy

* Taking Pills

* Frequent douching

* Hormonal replacement for menopause

* Diabetes or increased sugar level

Even with the knowledge of the different factors affecting yeast infection, you will still ask the question “how do I know if I have yeast infection?” especially if this is your first yeast infection. A doctor can tell you if you have yeast infection by examining your vaginal discharge under a microscope but initially you can tell that you have yeast infection if you have these symptoms.

* Severe itching, swelling and burning sensation in and around your vagina , so bad that you can hardly walk.

* Vaginal discharge that looks like cottage cheese.

* Vaginal discharge that smells like bread or beer.

What is yeast?

Yeast is a fungus scientifically referred to as Candida. The specific type of fungus most commonly responsible for vaginitis is Candida albicans. Yeast is commonly present on normal human skin and in areas of moisture, such as the mouth and vagina. In fact, up to 20% of women normally carry yeast in the vaginal area.

What is vaginitis?

Vaginitis is inflammation of the vagina. Vaginitis is very common and is reported by as many as 75% of women at some point in their lives. Vaginitis can be caused by a number of infections, including bacteria (such as Gardnerella and gonorrhea), protozoans (such as trichomonas), and yeast (Candida). Vaginal yeast infection is often referred to as vaginal Candidiasis.

Antibiotics

Antibiotics are probably the leading cause of vaginal yeast infections in american women, and are a great example of the important principle that by using technology to solve problems, we create other problems. say you take an antibiotic to cure your sinus infection, the antibiotic kills the unwanted bacteria in your sinuses, but can also kill the “good” bacteria in your crotch, upsetting the balance of your vaginal ecosystem, allowing the yeast to take over. (antibacterial deodorant soap can have the same effect.) most women have problems with only a few types of antibiotics, or with prolonged antiobiotic treatment. others get yeast infections every time they take antibiotics. unfortunately, i know of no way of preventing an antibiotic-induced yeast infection; you just have to treat it once it starts.

 Clothing: crotch yeasties flourish in non-cotton, tight, or dirty clothes that trap heat and moisture. Your absolutely best bet is to wear a skirt with no underwear or tights, and definitely avoid pantyhose. if you’ve ever had an urge to go for that sexy thigh-high stocking look but have been too shy, here’s the excuse you’ve been looking for. and if you do wear underwear, your safest bet is unbleached, undyed cotton underwear and breathable clothes. it’s a good idea to change your underpants regularly, like maybe once a day. if at all possible, don’t sleep in underwear; if you do, put on clean stuff. yeast can live in your underwear, so be sure to wash it well, particularly during and after a yeast infection. some medical types think that when you have a yeast infection, you should wash and dry your underwear and then iron it or throw it in the microwave on high for 5 min to kill the yeast. on the other hand, check out this testimonial: “I wanted to alert your readers that putting underwear in the microwave for 5 minutes is a VERY BAD IDEA… I went off to finish my nightly ablutions, leaving the underwear nuking away. I came back to a little black melted pile and an incredibly difficult to clean microwave.” there you have it. I personally am going to stick to ironing.

As to how long you have to stay on the Candia Yeast Diet? Well, this answer varies from person to person. In mild cases 3 months is sometimes enough, however, for more severe cases it can take 6 months to a year. It all depends on you and your body.

Candida yeast diet for severe cases

Some people are debilitated by Candida and cannot function at work or can barely get through the day.

If you were exposed to high levels of antibiotics as a child, or if you have had severe symptoms for more than four years, go directly to this diet.

If your symptoms did not clear up with Candida Diet  for moderate cases, advance to this one until they diminish.

As soon as you are free from symptoms, begin reintroducing a few foods slowly. The last ones to add would be yeast, vinegar, and mushrooms.

It may be necessary for you to stay on the Candida Yeast Diet for a number of months.

Doctors report a year or more is not unusual, but Fuchs has found by combining supplements with diet, it is often possible to go back to the Anti-Illness Diet more quickly.

Candidiasis is alleged to be successfully treated either with home remedies or, in the case of a more severe infection, with either over-the-counter substances or prescription antifungal medications. Home remedies for candidiasis include the consumption or direct application of yogurt, which contains lactobacillus (probiotics, “friendly” bacteria that kill yeast), acidophilus tablets or salves, and even lightly crushed cloves of garlic, which yield allicin, an antifungal. Boric acid has also been used to treat yeast infections when gelcaps are filled with boric acid powder and two are inserted at bedtime for three to four nights. A peer reviewed study in Australia found yogurt ineffective as treatment for Candida albicans. Eating an alkaline diet primarily of green, fresh, raw vegetables also may give relief.

While home remedies can offer relief in minor cases of infection, seeking medical attention can be necessary because the extent of the infection sometimes cannot be judged well by the sufferer. Prescription medication is often the only solution to an infection; the antifungal drugs commonly used to treat candidiasis are topical clotrimazole, topical nystatin, fluconazole, and topical ketoconazole. In severe infections (generally in hospitalized patients), amphotericin B, caspofungin, or voriconazole may be used. These medications are not effective against the more common bacterial vaginosis. Gentian violet might be used for breastfeeding thrush, but as a last resort, since it can cause mouth and throat ulcerations and is linked to cancer. Oral thrush is at the beginning of the digestive tract. It may be that more of the digestive tract is compromised by Candidiasis.

If indicated, an underlying reason should be looked for. As an example, oral candidiasis is often linked to the use of inhaled corticosteroids in asthma medication. Patients on long term inhaled corticosteroids should rinse their mouth after each dose of steroids. It can also be the first sign of a more serious condition, such as HIV. Babies with diaper rash should have their diaper areas kept clean, dry, and exposed to air as much as possible. Sugar assists the overgrowth of yeast; thus, the increased prevalence of yeast infections in patients with diabetes mellitus, as noted above. In the case of frequent yeast infections, sugar can be looked to as a culprit and should be avoided. Breast milk feeds yeast, and both a nursing mother and baby need to be treated, even if either is not symptomatic, to prevent thrush from being passed between mother and child.

As Candida spp. originates in the gut, some control may be exerted during an infection, and prior or between infections to control outbreaks. The fungus requires processed starches such as gluten as well as sugars. Dairy products may also contribute. As such, avoiding glutens, sugars, and dairy products may be termed an “avoidance diet” by some practitioners, and others as the “Candida control diet”. This also includes avoidance of fermented foods. Sugars include words ending in the letters “ose” as in fructose, and maltodextrin may also contribute to Candidiasis, and may give relief if avoided. More water consumption may remove the cause of fermentation opportunities in the gut.

It is important to consider that Candida is part of the human body’s normal oral and intestinal flora, and an infection is more a “bloom” than the work of a parasite, as in the case of some bacterial infections. Despite this, Candidiasis is sometimes misdiagnosed by medical personnel as bacterial in nature, and treated with antibiotics. This can lead to eliminating the yeast’s natural competitors for resources, and increase the severity of the condition. Candida is not a part of the normal flora of the skin. Treating Candidiasis only with medication may not give desired results. Treating Candidiasis better may impact miscarriage rates.

vaginal thrush

Most women experience vaginal thrush symptoms at least once in their lives, and some women have a chronic version that recurs frequently. Vaginal thrush symptoms include itching and burning sensations in the vagina and vulva, particularly when urinating. Thrush may also cause soreness and swelling. Symptoms are accompanied by a thick white or clear discharge that has a distinctive yeasty odor.
